Module 1: Duties and Best Practices in Dealing with Patients

Best practices for dealing with patients from the time they enter the diagnostic imagining facility to the time their examination is completed:

Duties to patients and consent to treatment
Chaperone policy to protect patients in vulnerable situations
Avoiding harassment claims
“0” tolerance to any forms of harassment
Avoiding challenging situations (give examples)
Handling and reporting patient emergencies and injuries
Examples of possible problematic situations employees may encounter with patients and how to best address them.

Module 2: Employees’ Rights and Duties to Employer and Co-Workers

Duties to employer and best practices for dealing with co-workers:

  • Appropriate conduct towards co-workers and avoiding harassment claims; (Best practices for avoiding termination and I would remove it) when termination of employment without notice may be warranted (fraud, theft, break-down in employment relationship, abuse, harassment, etc.);
  • When employees can be found negligent at work;
  • Off duty conduct—when inappropriate conduct results in break-down of employment relationship and examples of employee’s inappropriate conduct at work and how to avoid difficult situations.

Understanding employees’ rights and duties under Ontario legislation:

  • Duty to operate within the regulations of the Independent Health Facilities Act, the College of Physicians and Surgeons and the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario;
  • Employee’s rights under Bill 148 and the Employment Standards Act—(minimum wage, sick leaves, scheduling);
  • Handling and reporting personal emergencies and injuries;
  • Maintaining healthy and respectful work environment;

Module 6: Occupational Health and Safety
  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and WSIB;
  • Best Practices to avoiding workplace injuries;
  • Reporting obligations.
